Getting personal All of us are exposed to the media. None of us can escape the barrage of information spilling out from the sound waves. It can force from us an artificial response, or surface a comment that’s shallow, because we’ve not thought it through. Often our opinions are just conversation fodder. The soaps, sport and latest celeb’s gossip must make up a million words in the office or workplace every Monday morning!
Probably most of us are nonchalant about other countries problems. Issues like the credit crunch or immigration may spark off a reaction. It’s when things become personal that we’re most animated and involved.
What’s personal in your life today? family problems? financial difficulties? unemployment? bereavement? addiction of some sort, general dissatisfaction that may come from fear, loneliness or boredom? you will know what is personal to you right now.
The Bible is a personal book written to us by a personal God. Paul the apostle said ‘The Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me’ also said, ‘He could do, (cope, find the help I need) through God who gives me strength.’ God promises that we can receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
You may feel overwhelmed by all the problems in the world, as the media has unloaded global issues right at your door. You are finding yourself feeling guilty at your indifference, or fearful at what might happen to you or your family. God reassures us that we are in His protective hands as we live in the promise of his embracing presence. Colin Holmes |
